THE CEREMonY

At the mouth of the lava cave, a ground-level installation of white flowering branches, airy blooms, and fresh spring greenery rose and spilled outward, framing the ceremony space against towering columns of basalt. Simple linen-draped benches kept the focus on the stone and the flowers. Beside the cave wall, a second installation wrapped around the bride, so the branches looked like they had burst into bloom right out of the rock.

The bouquet

The bouquet that made the cover was loose and sculptural: imported dusty mauve and blush sweet peas, chartreuse hellebores, and trailing white sprays that cascaded well below the bride’s hand. It was soft in color but bold in shape, a balance of delicate and dramatic that mirrored the whole editorial.

The TABLE

Inside the cave, an intimate reception table glowed against the dark stone. Low, wild arrangements of mauve, blush, and white blooms wandered down the blush linens among tall ivory tapers, light blue stoneware, and smoky glassware. Flowering branches reached in around the table and the cake display, where Crumb Cakery’s textured, gold-leafed cake echoed the stone façade behind it.

THE COVER STORY

When Oregon Wedding Day came to Bend for its Fall/Winter 2025 issue, Ponderosa Planning invited us to design the florals for “Hidden Gem,” an editorial set inside the ancient lava cave at Juniper Preserve. The palette was soft and demure: white, cream, blush, green, and a whisper of blue, chosen to play against the dark, rugged basalt. We answered the rock with architecture of our own, building sweeping installations of flowering branches that seemed to grow straight out of the cave floor. The weather gave us snow, then rain, then peeks of sun, and the result became the magazine’s cover.
