Let me set the stage for you.  It was Brasada Ranch’s first wedding show and they wanted to curate their most favorite vendors for guests to experience first hand.  I wanna say I was the only florist asked to participate, which was a HUGE honor that I didn’t want to take lightly and so I pitched Brasada on the idea of a few of us creating an all-out styled shoot for guests to get ideas from and experience for themselves.  The truth is that selfishly, I wanted amazing pictures of everything that we made for the show because wedding shows are expensive to participate in and if I was gonna go all in, I loved the idea of collaborating with some of my uber-talented vendor friends.

As the floral designer for any event, including styled shoots, my job is to react to all of the details and then tie everything visually together with flowers.  Here’s what I knew going into this shoot.  1)  Brasada wanted to show off their tipi to give ideas to their couples.  2)  AE wanted to bring tropical elements into our high desert landscape.  3)  Curated Event Rentals wanted to show off their eclectic catalog of goodies.  4)  Sarah chose her two favorite looks for the bride and groom which added classic romance to the other vintage-inspired details.  5)  Everything was going to be staged outside so I knew that wind would be a factor, because it usually is at Brasada (and boy, was that the case on the day of the show!).

I chose a soft pastel color palette for all of the ruffley, super feminine, seasonal blooms that I chose for the flowers.  At first I wasn’t certain of the butter yellow, but it ended up giving everything the exact perfect early Spring pop to an otherwise mauve and beige color palette.  Plus it looked really good with the tipi’s warm sand color in photos.

This kinetic installation was suspended from the top of the tipi.  I wish I had a video so you could watch it slowly spin, the feathers tied elegantly with silk ribbons danced gracefully as it spun.

The tablescape that AE planned inspired the fairy-inspired centerpiece we designed which was anchored by a piece of driftwood where tiny whimsical gardens grew from.  The best part about this centerpiece (other than how cool it turned out) was that it didn’t move in the gale-force winds we had that day.  🙂

One of the main reasons styled shoots can be so much fun is that I get to do things that normally I’d have to wait for a client to want to pay me for… Things like entrance installations to greet guests usually end up falling off the proposal in order to strategically focus on better uses of their floral budgets.  This event allowed me to FINALLY decorate Brasada’s Barn entrance, which I had been dying to do forever.  We created an asymmetrical, wild installation full of different types of greenery and branches and punctuated with a select number of buttery blooms.

Whitney’s embellished lace gown felt very romantic to me, so I chose to round out her look with a full flower crown that complimented all of the other eclectic bohemian elements the other vendors were including.
